In Nerja, perched above the sea in the heart of the Axarquía region, we head straight to the iconic Balcón de Europa — a dramatic clifftop promenade with sweeping panoramic views over the Mediterranean that have been stopping travellers in their tracks for generations.

 

Frigiliana is pure Andalusia distilled into a single village. Its ancient Moorish street plan winds through whitewashed houses draped in colourful flowers, filling the air with a scent that is equal parts sea breeze and jasmine. We visit the Arab Castle and the Lizar Fortress — where the views over the surrounding countryside and coastline are simply breathtaking.
